Academic consideration – Faculty of Business & IT

What?

Use this form if you have missed any of the following coursework, tests or examinations due to extenuating circumstances (bereavement, religious observances, medical reasons):

  • Coursework worth more than 20 per cent of final grade (for coursework 20 per cent or less of final grade, please speak directly to your professor)
  • Test(s) or midterm examination(s) regardless of percentage of the weight of the examination
  • Final examination(s) Note: You must also submit the Request for an Examination Deferral form.

Where? Once submitted, this form is sent directly to your faculty office for review. If you have missed a final examination, you must also submit the Request for an Examination Deferral form which will be reviewed by the Office of the Registrar.

Who? This form is to be completed by the student in a situation where any coursework (more than 20 per cent of the final grade), tests, midterms or examinations specified are missed due to extenuating circumstances, including bereavement, religious observances and medical reasons.

When? Completed forms and supporting documentation (if applicable) must be submitted:

  • Seven business days PRIOR to the coursework, test or mid-term examination date if for religious reasons. Although supporting documentation is not required, your Academic Consideration must be submitted as soon as possible in advance, or no later than seven working days prior to submission deadline.
  • Fifteen business days PRIOR to the first final examination date if for religious reasons.
  • No later than three business days AFTER the missed coursework, test, mid-term or final examination date for all other reasons.

The length of time for submitted requests to be processed is dependent on the individual situation.
