The following recommendations will help ensure successful online testing:
Before the Exam
Advise students to perform software, and OS updates (e.g. Windows Update).
Create and deploy a mock exam prior to the first exam of the semester to test settings, and ensure students are able to use Respondus Lockdown Browser.
To mitigate individual failures such as hardware failure or individual LMS issues create three paper backup copies of the exam.
Respondus Lockdown Browser
When setting up an exam password, apply it in the Respondus LockDown Browser Settings page rather than in Test Options. Do not create an exit password if using exam support.
After setting an exam to require Respondus LockDown Browser, the password field in the Test Options page will automatically contain a string of letters and numbers. Do not edit, and do not provide this password to students; only provide the password you typed in the Respondus Settings page.
Check the Respondus LockDown Browser page in Course Tools prior to the test to ensure that there is not an error – select the Fix button if an error appears. When the test is in progress do not modify settings.
Do not use the Force Completion option.
If you do, students will not be able to access the same test attempt if they run into technical difficulties.
During the Exam
Instruct students to turn off cellphones, smart phones or tablets prior to the exam, to help reduce the load on the wireless network.
Instruct students to use their Ethernet cables and turn off wireless or vice versa (both should not be on at the same time.
