About Us
Founded in 1918, the CNIB Foundation is a non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today. The two opportunities that we will be talking more about are listed below:

1) Volunteer or Student Position Description
One-to-One Partner

Objective:
Provide one-to-one community-based support; for a person who is blind or partially sighted to increase their confidence and assist them to live the life they choose.

Responsibilities & Tasks:
• Regularly visit a client by phone or in person at their home or other community location at a mutually convenient time
• Activities are determined by client need and mutually agreed upon
• Implement approved activities
• Notify the client in advance if you will miss a scheduled appointment. Also notify your supervisor if you will miss more than two in a row
• When a client needs more support, service, counseling or information then you can give, refer them to staff
• If role includes outings, these are on foot, by public transportation or taxi unless otherwise authorized
• Track and report volunteer hours as directed

2) Volunteer or Student Position Description
Tech Mate


Objective:
Provide one-to-one technology training and support for a person who is blind or partially sighted to increase their confidence and assist them to live the life they choose.

Supervisor: Coach, SmartLife and Assistive Technology
Responsibilities & Tasks:
• Attend initial training meeting/session with Coach, SmartLife and Assistive Technology and client.
• Set up a maximum of 5 follow-up sessions to take place in a community location or public space (for example: library, coffee shop, CNIB office space)
• Using training modules as a guide, work on training your client on how to use their iPhone or similar device along with the accessibility apps
• Provide reports to Coach, SmartLife and Assistive Technology on how the training is going and any requests for support.
• Notify the client in advance if you will miss a scheduled appointment
• When a client needs more support, service, counseling, or information then you can refer them back to Coach, SmartLife and Assistive Technology.
• Track and report volunteer hours as directed

Oshawa Little Theatre

Oshawa Little Theatre

Established community theatre, a non-profit organization, which runs approximately four major productions per year (typically a drama, a comedy and two musicals) of high amateur quality. Runs Summer Youth Theatre Camp, and Youth Orchestra Camp with productions for the public at the end of each.

While there are a few part-time and one full-time staff members answerable to the General Manager and the volunteer Board of Directors, the theatre relies primarily on volunteers for stage, backstage and Front of House operations, and has a broad variety of volunteer and skills/resume-building opportunities. Volunteering: Volunteers are the heart of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto, playing a crucial role in supporting families with seriously ill children. Eligibility Criteria: To ensure the safety and well-being of the families we serve, we have specific requirements for our volunteers:

• Three current references
• Attendance at a hospital orientation (for Family Room volunteers only)
• Completed MMR and 2-Step TB Test within the last 6 months (for Family Room volunteers)
• A weekly commitment for a minimum of 6 months
• Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer at the House or in our Family Rooms
